Pinning Addict!

I must admit when I first started Pinterest I didn't think too much of it. That is until I started seeing all of the great education ideas! Now I am an addicted pinner! It did cross my mind that maybe it wasn't totally okay to be pinning some of these great ideas without permission. Then I read this article http://corkboardconnections.blogspot.com/2012/02/do-you-have-permission-to-pin.html and now am looking at pinning in a different light.  However, that being said I would be absolutely THRILLED if I saw some of my own ideas on Pinterest!! Feel free to Pin and to follow on  Pinterest http://pinterest.com/bobbiespage/ .

Now onto sharing ideas! I love to get my morning off to a great start with my Kindergarteners. Many Kindergarten classrooms do some sort of "morning message." One of my favorite takes on this activity is "The Daily News." I've done this in my room since my first year of teaching! At the beginning of the year I pull sticks out of a cup to choose those that will get to share their news for the day because EVERYONE wants to share their exciting news.  We do a shared writing activity with it and look for letters and popcorn words. Now that we are into the second semester the kids take turns writing their own news. The above says "My brother can now roll a ball. I got new shoes. & I was sick, I had strep."
On days that we have something different going on like an assembly or a schedule change I will have the "newscasters" write the news on their own while the rest of the class moves on to another activity. Later the news will be put in our chart/big book center and the kids can edit the news or look for popcorn words and letters we are working on.
"I had a scary dream. I went to California. & My cousin is sick." Later as a class we usually go through the news and discuss any editing that took place. We will also talk about the popcorn words and letters that were "buttered" with their yellow marker.
The above shows one of their first attempts at editing on their own in a center without any assistance!  Later that morning we reviewed the edits together. Thank you for visiting my blog! Have a great rest of your weekend!

  3. I have been talking about writing "the news" with kinders and we will be starting after Spring break next week--can't wait! Today one of my kinders brought in the paper so we could get our wall started--so we did. So excited about that!
